Duplicati

Duplicati - backup software

https://www.duplicati.com/

I know, I know, I'm taking it easy here with the low hanging fruit of backup software. I mean, it's the rock star of the software world, on the forefront of everyone's mind. Or not.

Anyway, I've been using Duplicati for quite awhile now. It's running on my Windows laptop as well as my Linux machines. It's super easy to use, and you can target a local drive (I used a USB drive that's fully encrypted using Veracrypt) or a vast array of online storage.

Whaaaat? Local USB thumb drive for backup? Is this 2005? After the initial data seed to the cloud (AWS S3 in my case) it doesn't very long at all to do more online backups. But I'm quite often working from weird locations where I'm tethering from my phone, and I want to be as careful as I can about burning through data, so I use the local USB.

Anyway, check out the site linked above for more info and may get a copy for yourself. Did I mention that it's FOSS?

Windows 95 - The App

Windows 95 - the operating system that everyone loved to hate - is now available as an app. It's multi-platform - it runs on Linux, Mac, and yes, even Windows.

This fun little app let's you take a trip down memory lane. Admittedly it's not perfect, it still borks from time to time. But then, that's probably less to do with the app and more do with Win95.

Go to Github to download the app for yourself:

Here are some more screenshots:

On Windows it's just a binary exe

Hopefully I'll have some time to get some screenshots from running this app on Linux soon.

The Great Suspender

I love browser tabs! Love love love 'em! But having tons of tabs open has an adverse affect on my laptop's performance.  So I use tab suspenders to reduce my browser's memory footprint.

Dozy Don

Trump nods off during a meeting with Trudeau

Putting aside Trump's narcolepsy for now, Twitter's biggest customer has some serious issues with the truth. In fact, it is completely accurate to say he's the least truthful president in history.

For fun, here's the Toronto Star's fact checked list of every false claim Donald Trump has made as president. Man, I love data.
